Mabel, the green fox wearing gray hearing aids, sits calmly.

Start with Mabel

Mabel enjoys a busy afternoon with friends. After a while she wants a quieter moment. She does not have to wait until everything feels too much.

Try it together: my pause plan

Fold a page into three spaces. Draw or write your answers.

  • How can I show that I want a break?
  • Where can I go with a trusted grown-up’s help?
  • How will I find out what I missed when I am ready?

You might like company, quiet, movement, or a different activity. Your plan can change.

Words you can borrow

“I’d like a pause.”

“Can you show me the next step when I come back?”

For grown-ups

Plan supervision and a comfortable place in advance. Offer breaks without requiring a child to prove they need one. Share missed information and welcome them back without pressure.

Take it with you

A pause can be part of taking part.
