Start with Mabel
Everyone has an idea for the class project. When friends talk at once, Mabel misses who said what. The group decides to make a better plan together.
Try it together: plan a pretend party
Choose three things for an imaginary party. Before you begin, agree to take turns and keep faces easy to see. Write or draw the final choices where everyone can see them.
Pause halfway. Ask everyone, “What would help us follow each other?” You can share ideas through speech, sign, drawing, or writing.
Words you can borrow
“Whose turn is it?”
“Could we write down the plan?”
“I have an idea to add.”
For grown-ups
Build access into the group routine rather than asking one child to manage it. Keep the visual space clear, identify speakers, and make shared instructions available in a form the child can use.
Take it with you
A good group makes room for each person’s ideas.
